Walk, Walk, Walk!

Walk, Walk, Walk!

I'M NOT A BIG FAN OF GOING TO THE GYM, EVEN THOUGH WE HAVE FREE ACCESS (MILITARY) TO SOME NICE FACILITIES. But the timing BETWEEN SWEATY GRUNTING WEIGHT BANGERS AND chatty STAY-AT-HOME-MOM-PONYTAIL-SWINGERS, DOESN'T WORK FOR ME. SO I RARELY GO THERE.

Then there's the weather. I don't do hot, humid, buggy, rainy, January, possibly February or pollen season. That leaves about one-eighth of the year for perfect walking and bike riding weather in my neck of the woods. In between time, I tend to fall off the wagon like splat and stay there.

This year I could not let that happen. I got a new Fitbit, started watching my calorie intake and really got my act together.

I was doing good until July and vacations happened. By Hot-gust, when outside was unbearable, it was time to resume an indefinite indoor routine and I had to look for something new and exciting.

I found walking videos on Youtube. If I don't physically walk my neighborhood, I rarely make it to the daily Fitbit goal of 10K steps. With the walking videos I get a nice head start into the day.

Here's a playlist of videos that I have found on Youtube

Today, I did Leslie Samsone's iWalk Strong 3 Mile Walk. Before the walk/workout I had 691 steps. When I was finished, I had 5446 steps all before 8am.

It wasn't the hardest, and it wasn't the easiest. It was just the one I was in the mood for in a let's get this over with kinda way.

I should have prefaced this post with how I wish I didn't have to workout and I can't like it.

I do love my seeing activity on my Fitbit though and the physical results of my labor. So there's that.

Since discovering Leslie on Youtube, I have purchased two of her DVDs and one digital download. Between the Youtube videos and these DVDs I have enough of an assortment so that the indoor walks won't get stale.

These workouts are more than just walking and you can really raise your heart rate depending on the effort you put into it. If you just want to get in a quick 10 minutes to warm up your muscles, you can do that too. There are lots of options. It's a full body calorie burn and it can get sweaty.

  • So, do you think you can like walking indoors?
  • Did you know that you can speed up your metabolism by getting in a brisk walk?
