Moments in #Motherhood Time

“It does get easier, just more complicated.”

— Motherhood

I was cleaning out an email account that I need to delete and I found this email to my mom in the sent folder. I thought about where I should save it, and then decided to tuck it here in my blog where all the stories are.

When Christopher was four, I switched him to a new school for Pre-K. I had recently stopped working a 9 to 5 and had been wearing "work clothes" for the drop off. On this particular day, Christopher observed that I was wearing sneakers and that started his day off wrong.

Today did not go as well. It started with, "Why are you putting those shoes on?" (me wearing sneakers) to "I don't want to go to school". Here are all the things I can think of that he said as we were headed out and all the way there. (And he did cry once I left him).

"I just want to go to my old school" (about 10 times)

"I hate that place.  They don't have paint."

"Nobody won't play with me."

"I don't want to go to the new school." (about 10 times)

"Because nobody would share the dinosaur."

"Mom please don't turn that way."

Needless to say, I am flat. :-(

On a lighter note, Ms. "T" was so happy when I told her that Christopher told me about Kathy the Kangaroo. She said sometimes she feels like the kids aren't paying attention and that she is just reading to herself. She said it says a lot that he remembered that.

Funny, I wouldn't have remembered this if I didn't have it written down. I do remember practically dragging him by the time we got to the door and Ms. T telling me, "Just go. He will be fine." It's hard dropping your kid off like that when you practically had to throw them in the classroom like a sack of flour. At least that's what it felt like to me. And at the end of the day, Ms. T would tell me he was fine before I probably made it out of the parking lot.

Present Day: Christopher missed the bus one day last week. He wasn't too thrilled about the fact that I had to take him to school. As we were driving he said, "You need to take your car to get it washed." We had recently traveled and it was bug splattered, in addition to a generous amount of bird poop on the window and sideview mirror. When we pulled up to the school he said, "You can just drop me off right here." I was kinda mad and considered punishing him for missing the bus and have HIM wash my car. Then I had a flashback of me telling my daddy not to drop me off in front of the school because of the way his car looked. And I said, "Payback is a ish."

Did you ever experience the dramatic drop off?

Sporadically Yours,
