This post would annoy my dad. He doesn't get why people text, so he certainly wouldn't understand the trouble of creating shortcuts for texting. His common questions, "Are you still texting? Why don't you just pick up the phone?" I'm 40 years old and I have to hide from my dad to go text. Humph.
This is a cool iOS 5 feature. I have a six-year-old son, who I talk about a lot. There are 11 letters in his name. Now I can type out his initials and his name will fill the space. This shortcut feature applies to text, e-mail, or anywhere in your phone or iPad where you type.
To add your own shortcuts, go to:
Settings/General/Keyboard/Shortcuts/Add New Shortcut...
