Remaining on the sunny side...for now

I finally got the green light out of the server traffic jam and I'm scared to move to iCloud.

At this point I feel like I will be writing less about iCloud than I thought. I'm not moving my account until my MobileMe account is getting ready to expire. MobileMe users got a free extension, so my account won't expire until the end of June. In the meantime, I will probably re-evalute my decision everyday!

Here's the #1 reason why I'm sitting at the red light:

Privately shared calendars will be preserved when you move, but the people you are sharing them with must also be using iCloud to view them. If you did not originally create the privately shared calendar, you will not be able to view it until the person that created it moves to iCloud.

My husband and I share calendars. First of all he isn't updated yet, and second of all (I really need his calendars) - to help keep him up with where he is supposed to be.  So when we move to iCloud, we need to move together.

The following MobileMe sync services are not part of iCloud and will no longer be available after moving your MobileMe account to iCloud.

    • Dashboard Widgets
    • Dock Items
    • Keychain
    • Mail Accounts
    • Mail Rules, Signatures, and Smart Mailboxes
    • Mac OS X Preferences syncing

Mail accounts? Really? I'm spoiled that my mail accounts have been synced through my devices with MobileMe. Why would they take this away? I don't want to get a third-party software for this and I don't want to start using my me.com address. I have thought a work around would be having my other e-mails directly forwarded to the me.com address but I'll have to think about it.

      #3

iWeb Publishing (never used), Gallery, and iDisk are going away.  I started using Dropbox, so I'm okay with this. I just made sure that anything I had saved in iDisk and Gallery has been deleted.

I would normally throw caution to the wind and jump right in, but since my husbands booked solid calendar is involved, I'll wait until I'm sure about moving or things have slowed down a bit on our end.

I can put the cord away...
