Dearly Beloved...

We are gathered here today to get through this thing called life [...] The after world [...] And if the elevator tries to bring you down... ~Let's Go Crazy - Prince

If there was ever a weekend to hole up in a basement and get high....

I'd delve into Prince's lyrics and philoso-fy the hell out of them like Badger, Skinny Pete and Jessie Pinkman.

I've been high twice by accident. Once on Percocet and once when I took a hit of some weed. The results were unintended and I was more emotional than I was philosophical.

I spent the afternoon sitting motionless in front of CNN. Prince - died - unresponsive - elevator - 57 - pronounced dead.

How many hours of CNN do you have to watch to believe what you're hearing?

It wasn't until later this evening when VH-1 played Let's Go Crazy that I said, "Wait, what?!" Pause. Rewind.

Elevator. After world.

Death scares me. The irony of death scares me more. And more than anything, I am afraid of dying in the way that I am most afraid to die. I won't say it out loud. I don't want anyone to know. I don't want someone to one day say, "You know she was afraid to die that way..."

This post is a grief ramble and a weak attempt to participate in the Finish the Sentence writing prompt about fear. One of my biggest fears is to die in a dramatic way.

This weekend I'll be uploading my Prince CD's to iTunes and taking some walks - since getting high is out.

In the words of Forrest Gump - "And that's all I have to say about that."

RIP Prince.  (June 7, 1958 – April 21, 2016)

I wish I was dreaming when I wrote this.

  • Do you have a favorite Prince song?

  • Do you know Badger, Skinny Pete and Jessie Pinkman?
