I am so "appy"...

Dear Sunday,

I'm going to participate in a linkup today. I've prescribed myself to free write 400 words a day to get my writing mojo back. I think I'm on week 2. I've missed a day or two but otherwise doing pretty good.

I've been looking for a stream of consciousness (SOC)  linkup for a long time and finally a couple weeks ago just decided to do my own. So that’s what I’ve been doing under another page on my site. I am not sure where I am going to publish this one. I'm probably going to continue keeping my SOC posts under the radar.

Anyway for linking up with this SOC I decided I would write 400 words and see how long it takes instead of writing for 5 minutes. That way I can end it properly and pause the stopwatch while I sip my tea. It’s still free writing, I just seem to stress about getting it done in 5 minutes so I’m bending the rules.

I downloaded a free stopwatch for Mac and I’m using Scrivener on the Mac which shows my word count. Right now I am at 170/400.

I’ve tried this writing exercise a number of ways. I really love Hanx writer on the iPad mainly it’s because it sounds like a typewriter. But otherwise it’s inconvenient because I can only use it on the iPad. When I have the iPad my  family comes out of the woodwork, needing me or it. Well that seems to be what happens when I am writing period.

The other thing about Hanx writer is that  it doesn’t auto correct so I spend time backspacing or I’ve just been leaving the errors in there. So my graphic for my SOC posts say, “Please excuse me while I scratch my niche.” I just type and don’t worry about the grammar and punctuation. I do let auto correct fix my spelling though.

I have a hard time writing within my blog unless it’s for something specific - like a prompt and then I am properly building my post with my pictures and stuff. But I like the free writing because I’m not worried at all about the appearance of it. I’m not going to stop to put anything in bold or italics or link anything - which makes it so time consuming.

Yeah I already know that I’ll post this on my journal page because I didn’t really say anything. I almost don’t want to even share this with the linkup because it’s boring.  Now here I am at 400 words. Exercise done.  And what do you know, it only took five minutes and 56 seconds.

First time linking up with Jaime McKee's Stream of Consciousness weekend linkup. I found this linkup through my blogging friend Jamie Miles
